Religious Education



School Policy

Regular attendance for proper instruction is necessary for success in any learning environment.  All sessions will take place at OLPH school except to Wednesday which will be held at St. Catharine’s school building.

Attendance Policy

  • Parents should call the office on the morning of class day to report an absence for the day.  A note is required on the day your child returns to class if the absence has not been reported by phone or is of a serious nature.
  • If a student misses five or more classes for reasons other than serious illness, he or she may have to repeat the grade.
  • No student will be excused for any sport activity during the hour of instruction.  Students will not be permitted to switch days because of sport commitments or any other reasons.
  • Lateness: Because class time is limited to one session of an hour and a half each week,  it is imperative that students arrive on time for each class.
  • Students are expected to be mentally present during instruction.  Cell phone usage is not allowed and may be collected by the teacher.


  • will take place at least twice a year, to assure that students have acquired the material taught. 


  • may be given every week.  Homework will be given if appropriate.  Please make sure any assignments are done by the student.

Safe Environment

  • Age appropriate safe environment lessons are taught during a week of Lent.  Please feel free to examine lesson plans in the religious education office.
  • No child is permitted to leave the building and walk home alone.  If 7th and 8th grader parents wish to give written permission for their children to walk home, they must submit it in writing to the Religious Education Office in September.  
  • Pick Up and Drop Off -- Drive Carefully!!!! Please be extremely cautious in the parking lot when dropping off and picking your child up. 
  • If someone else is picking up your child(ren) other than a parent, written permission is required. 
  • When picking up your children or other’s children when carpooling, make sure the teacher know you are there and taking the children.
  • No child will be left unattended until an adult comes to get them.  If you are running late call the Religious Education Office.
  • Medical Forms should be updated on a student each year if necessary.
  • Photos of your child(ren) may be taken and used in Parish publications including web and print media.  Please contact the office if there is an issue with this.

Spiritual Development of Your Child:

  • It is our privilege and obligation to attend Sunday Mass.  If possible, do so as a family

  • School closing due to snow will be announced on Cable 12, email, and our webpage
  • Notifications are done by email if a certain class will be cancelled.  We will endeavor to give as much prior notice as possible.  However, emergencies do happen so, we ask that you please check emails at 2:00 PM on the day of class to see if your child class will be cancelled.
